Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel Coil (GI) Overview
Hot-dip galvanized steel coil (GI) is produced by passing a fully hardened steel sheet, which has undergone pickling and rolling processes, through a zinc pot. This process coats the surface with a zinc film. Zinc's properties impart excellent corrosion resistance, paintability, and workability to the steel. Typically, the processes and specifications for hot-dip galvanized steel sheet and galvanized steel coil are essentially identical.
Characteristics and Benefits of Galvanized Steel
Galvanized steel is mild steel coated with a layer of zinc. The zinc coating offers cathodic protection to the underlying steel, meaning that if the surface is damaged, the zinc will corrode before the steel does, thereby protecting it from corrosion. Galvanized steel is extensively used in the building sector, automotive industry, agriculture, and other areas where steel needs protection from corrosion.
Hot-Dip Galvanizing Process (HDG)
Hot-Dip Galvanizing (HDG) is a process where zinc bonds to steel at the molecular level to produce a four-layer corrosion-resistant finish. The first three layers consist of zinc-iron alloy layers that are actually harder than the base steel. The fourth, or top layer, is pure zinc. This multi-layered structure ensures long-lasting durability and protection against corrosion.

Corrosion protection: 13 years for heavy industrial areas, 50 years for marine, 104 years for suburban areas and 30 years for urban areas.
Inexpensive: Hot dip galvanising costs less than other coatings.
Reliable: The zinc coating is metallurgically bonded to the steel and forms part of the steel surface, making the coating more durable.
Toughness: the galvanised steel layer forms a special metallurgical structure that can withstand mechanical damage during transport and use.
Comprehensive protection: every part of the coating can be galvanised and is fully protected even in depressions, sharp corners and hidden areas.
Saving time and effort: the galvanising process is faster than other coating methods.
