Colour coated coil is a versatile product made from substrates like hot-dip galvanized sheet, hot-dip aluminium zinc plated sheet, and electro-galvanized sheet. The manufacturing process involves pre-treatment, including chemical degreasing and chemical conversion treatment, followed by coating one or several layers of organic paint. This paint is then baked and cured to achieve a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish. These coils are named colour coated coils due to the various colours of organic paint applied.
Using hot-dip galvanized steel strip as the substrate for colour coated steel strip provides a dual layer of protection. Besides the zinc layer, the organic coating adds an extra shield, enhancing rust prevention and extending the steel strip's service life by about 1.5 times compared to regular galvanized strips.
Colour coated coils offer a range of benefits including light weight, aesthetic appeal, and excellent anti-corrosion properties. They can be directly processed and are available in a variety of colours such as grey, white, sea blue, and brick red. These attributes make them suitable for a wide range of applications, including:

Different resins are employed to ensure optimal performance:
- Polyester: Offers good adhesion, rich colours, formability, and outdoor durability at a low cost.
- Silicone Modified Polyester (SMP): Provides good film hardness, abrasion resistance, heat resistance, exterior durability, and resistance to chalking. It also retains gloss well and has general flexibility at a medium cost.
- High Durability Polyester (HDP): Known for excellent colour retention, UV resistance, exterior durability, and chalking resistance. It also has good film adhesion, rich colours, and provides excellent cost performance.
- Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF): Known for exceptional colour retention, UV resistance, outdoor durability, chalking resistance, solvent resistance, and dirt resistance. It offers good formability but is available in limited colours and comes at a higher cost.
These characteristics and diverse applications make colour coated coils a popular choice across multiple industries, combining functionality with aesthetic appeal.
Type of coating structure
2/1: Coat upper surface twice, lower surface once, bake twice.
2/1M: Coat upper and lower surfaces twice, bake once.
2/2: Top and bottom surfaces are coated twice each and baked twice.
2/1: The corrosion resistance and scratch resistance of single layer back coating is poor, but it has good adhesion, mainly used for sandwich panels.
It is mainly used for sandwich panels;
2/1M: backcoat with good corrosion resistance, scratch resistance and moulding properties, good adhesion, suitable for single-layer compression moulding panels.
2/1M: good corrosion resistance, scratch resistance and moulding properties, good adhesion, suitable for single-layer pressboards and sandwich panels.
2/2: double-layer backing paint with good corrosion resistance, scratch resistance and processability, mostly used for single-layer pressboards, but with good adhesion.
Most of them are used for single-layer moulding board, but its adhesion is not good, and it is not suitable for sandwich board.
